We are one of just five contractors in Michigan to be certified as a Neogard contractor. The Hartland Educational Support Services (HESS) building coating project was awarded to us, along with the maintenance garage. This amounted to over 150,000 sq. ft. of roofing to be coated with Neogards Elasta-Gard SP urethane roof coating.
As with any coating project, the first step is to clean and inspect the roof to locate any and all problem areas. These areas are repaired using an approved method for the existing system. The HESS buildings existing roof was an EPDM membrane, so we sealed every seam with a polyester mesh to ensure their integrity.
After the roof is sufficiently prepped, required areas are primed and then a base coat is laid down. Once the base coat is ready, the final top coat is applied. These materials can be rolled or sprayed, depending on the requirements of each project. We used both methods on this project, depending on the specific demands of each section.
Elastagard products can be produced in almost any color. White is always a very popular choice though, as the reflectivity of white roofs can have a significant impact on the cost of heating and cooling a building. Hartlandchose white for this very reason. The finished product greatly impressed the Director of Operations.
