LAKE PARK RESIDENCE
This custom residence was built by Thomas Sebold & Associates and designed by Young & Young Architects. B&B crews installed several roofing and waterproofing systems at this home consisting of natural slate, copper standing seam, EPDM membrane and modified bitumen membrane waterproofing.
The slate roof is a four color blend with a thickness of 3/8’’ to ½’’ and installed with a random width pattern. The slate roof was installed over a premium underlayment system and then fastened with copper nails. All copper flashings were used and custom copper vented ridge capping was used for proper ventilation. The hips were mitered to create a clean transition from section to section.
.60 mil re-enforced EPDM membrane roofing was used on the upper flat roof locations. The flat roofs transition to the slate roof with a custom copper flashing detail that also allows for exhaust ventilation.
This home features a separate building used as a squash court. The squash court is connected to the main house with a long two story connecting breezeway. The breezeway is roofed with a copper double locking standing seam roof system. The front entry canopy also has a double locking copper standing seam roof, this roof has mitered hip details and features a copper inlayed gutter on the front section.
Many other components were installed on this home. Chimney caps were waterproofed with Alsan high performance liquid waterproofing, copper snow guards were installed at specific locations, 6’’ half round copper gutters were installed throughout the roof, Andeck liquid copper waterproofing was used over a modified bitumen membrane porch roof and B&B Glass installed glass on a custom built skylight that was flashed and clad with copper.
Premium products and proper installation have provided this home with a lifetime roof system that can handle the harsh Michigan weather conditions. Slate and copper roofing has a minimum life expectancy of 75 years, although with proper maintenance they will last many decades longer.
