ODAWA CASINO - Petoskey, Michigan

This project was one of our most challenging metal projects to date. In addition to the demanding details of the various metal systems, the buildings location right next to Little Traverse Bay in northern Michigan made the challenge of working through the winter even more of a struggle. Crews routinely faced high winds, blistering cold and tons of snow while maintaining our high-level of excellence in craftsmanship.

Several different metal systems were incorporated in the final project, including a Berridge Z-Lock roof system, Berridge FW-12 wall panels, and Schaffner Heany RLS 9000 composite panels. In addition, we constructed several wave-shaped copper-clad architectural elements that are hung over the gaming floor. (Click the Metalmag Magazine cover to the right for a February 2008 article about the job).

The curved roof panels, some at over a hundred feet in length, required crews of up to sixteen people to handle them as they came out of the roll-forming machine and were set in place. Often times, this was accomplished despite the high winds that came howling in off of the bay.

The roof panels weren't the only challenge on this project. The panels surrounding the oval-shaped section curved on two separate planes both around the oval and from top to bottom. This required intense focus on the part of the installers as well as continuing, on-site modifications to the panels and the layout design.

In the end, the project was completed ahead of schedule and to the immense satisfaction of the architect and the tribe. In fact, the finished product, as well as the complicated nature of its construction, is so impressive that we were honored with Berridges Roofs of Distinction award.
